For more than 80 years, Nova Scotians have come together to create those chances for emerging artists.

Legacy Leaders are carrying that belief forward.

It started with someone who believed in Portia White.

In 1944, the Nova Scotia Talent Trust was established to support a young Portia White, whose extraordinary talent had already begun to capture attention.

That support helped Portia pursue her artistic career and ultimately achieve international acclaim. Her story inspired a lasting idea: when someone believes in an emerging artist and gives them an opportunity, the impact can reach far beyond that one moment.

For more than 80 years, NSTT has carried that belief forward, supporting more than 1,500 emerging Nova Scotian artists on their paths toward professional careers.

Someone believed in Aidan.

In 2018, at just 14 years old, Lower Sackville dancer Aidan Vaudreuil applied to the Nova Scotia Talent Trust to attend a summer program at the Royal Winnipeg Ballet.

With an NSTT scholarship, Aidan got his first opportunity to train there. With continued support, he returned year after year, developing his skills and growing as an artist.

In 2024, Aidan received a professional contract with the Royal Winnipeg Ballet.

The young dancer who once needed an opportunity was now stepping onto the stage as a professional.
